Officially called Langkawi, the Jewel of Kedah, this duty-free island is part of an archipelago of 99 islands (plus five smaller islands that are only visible at low tide in the Strait of Malacca). It is situated next to the Thai border, about 30 kilometers off the coast of northwest Malaysia, and a few kilometers south of Ko Tarutao. In terms of politics, Kuah is the largest town in Kedah's administrative area. The island's most visited beach and tourist destination is Pantai Cenang, although Langkawi was established as a tourist destination in the 1980s.Every year, Langkawi receives about 2,400 mm (94 in) of rain.UNESCO designated Langkawi Island a World Geopark on June 1, 2007.The Langkawi Sky Bridge is situated atop Gunung Mat Chinchang, which is reached by the Langkawi Cable Car.

From there, you can take a boat. either order to catch the ferry, you can also take a bus from Singapore and get off either Kuala Perlis or Kuala Kedah.
