Covering 754 square kilometers, Kinabalu Park was designated as a park in 1964 and is now a World Heritage Site.Following a report by the Royal Society Kinabalu Scientific trip in 1962–1964, which was headed by Prof. Corner, the foundation for the creation of a protected area in Kinabalu was established. In the state of Sabah in Malaysian Borneo, it is the first park. The highest mountain between the Himalayas and New Guinea, Mount Kinabalu (4,095.2 m), is its primary feature. There is a diverse range of plant and animal species on its slope. It is a hotspot for plant biodiversity, especially with affinities to plants from the pan-tropical region, China, Australia, the Himalayas, and the Malay Peninsula.  

With over 4,500 species of plants and animals, distinctive ecotreasures, and a variety of exciting nature-based activities, Kinabalu Park—Malaysia's first UNESCO World Heritage Site—is one of the most visited tourist attractions in the nation.  Its highest summit, Mt. Kinabalu, stands at 4,101 meters and is the youngest granite pluton in the world, rising five millimeters annually. The lowest point is Poring Hot Spring.
